Timaru South Site officially opened in 1881 as a side school of Timaru Main. The opening roll was 140 – 150 and it became known as Timaru South School in 1896. The School became a contributing school in 1974 with the opening of Watlington Intermediate in the area and maintained a roll between 270 and 300. In 2005 the school once again became a Full Primary School and has the challenge of being the largest split site school set up by the Minister of Education as a result of a District Review. The current roll is 325 and includes students at both the Timaru South and Pareora East sites.

There are 11 classrooms operating at this campus from the new entrant class through to Year 8.   A number of part time teachers are employed to provide learning support and extension programmes, to support ORRS funded students, to give management release and teach international students. The school has had international students for the past three years.

Pareora East Site has a proud history of delivering quality learning to the students of the village of Pareora and those from surrounding farms for 102 years. There are three classes operating on the site ensuring low teacher-pupil ratios in each room. The school is in good repair with four teaching spaces, one of which is used for a range of school wide community activities such as assemblies. The classrooms are well resourced with computers and other needs to support learning.

The school has a recently refurbished library and grounds which provide the students and staff with neat areas to carry out learning outside the classroom. Included is a swimming pool which is used by the families in the summer holidays.

Each campus is supported by assistance for individual students and families by staff of Group Special Education, Speech Therapist, Resource Teachers Learning and Behaviour, Social Worker in Schools, Resource Teacher of Literacy and  Public Health Nurses.
